Hi everyone, I am joining “The Fab Flippin’ Furniture Contest” in July with my piece I called Bright and Beautiful! This month’s theme is “Come On, Let Your Colors Burst!”
This month the contest is hosted by Stacy from Anastacia Vintage and Lynn from Fern Avenue.
Not only you get to showcase your piece, and get opportunity to be featured on 6 amazing blogs, you also get a prize! This month the sponsor of the contest is The Unicorn SPiT, beautifully coloured gel stains!
I absolutely love bright colours and used to do art when I was younger, so I couldn’t wait to start on this month’s theme. I really wanted to try out the gel stain on this project but with me living in the Isle of Man I thought they might not arrive on time.. STRESSED! Instead of panicking I decided to add some splash of colour by using acrylic paint I already had at home.
I had an image in my head and I really hoped it would transfer to the piece. *Fingers crossed!*
I had this little table for a while now and it was all sad in the corned of my shed so I decided to turn it into a special piece and add a little ‘splash of colour’. I don’t think you always need a big piece to make a big impact!
So here is the table before the transformation..
I started by sanding the table and cleaning it. This left me with nice blank canvas to work with. I had it in my head that I wanted to do a nice flower on the table top. I have seen a gorgeous picture of a bright flower which was my initial inspiration for this piece – bright and beautiful just the way I wanted my little table to look!
I started by drawing a rough sketch on the top of the table using chalk.
This was a total improvisation and free hand I must admit, but I had SO MUCH FUN!!!!! I thought I would panic a little but when I started mixing the colours together I had a blast.
I finished the top and was thinking what to do with the legs. I first wanted to paint them using Annie Sloan’s Province but as my luck would have it the local stocklist didn’t have it.. So I spoke to my hubby and he came up with a brilliant idea to paint the legs as stems of the flower – green.. Pure genius I thought! Thank you SHAUN!
So here is my piece all finished – BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL!! What do you think?
This makeover really is bright & beautiful! And I love your photos! Great job!
